What are the eight steps of the embalming process? 🇪🇬🇪🇬

1. Purify the body

Before the embalming process begins, wash the body with Nile water and palm wine.

2. Removal of the internal organs

A small incision is made in the left side of the body and the liver, lungs, intestine and stomach are removed. It is then washed and packed in natron before being placed in canopic jars.

The heart is left in the body where it is believed to be the center of intelligence, and it will be necessary in the afterlife.

3. Ignore the brain

An applicator is inserted through the nostril into the skull and is used to disassemble the brain so it can exit the nose.

Then the liquid is eliminated where it is not believed to be useful.

4. Leave it to dry

The body is stuffed and covered with natron, a type of salt that absorbs any moisture. Then it is left for 40 days to dry.

5. Filling the body

Once again, it's washed down with Nile River water and covered with oils to help the skin stay supple.

Natron is extracted and the body is then stuffed with sawdust and flax to make it appear vibrant.

6. Wrap it in linen

First, the head and neck are wrapped with strips of linen, then the fingers and toes.

The arms and legs are wrapped separately before tying them together. As a glue, liquid resin is used.

7. Add the amulets

Amulets called amulets are placed between layers to protect the body during its journey to the afterlife.

8. Say a prayer

The priest reads spells aloud while the body is wrapped to ward off evil spirits.

He often wears a mask of Anubis - the deity associated with the process of embalming and the afterlife.
